It’s not an inconsequential fact that the leaders of InSytu are all people who have spent their careers in hospitals, often on the front lines of patient care. Their experience is what elevates InSytu from being a purely business-driven program to one with a mission of improving the lives and health of patients and caregivers alike.
Theresa Demeter is the Administrative Director of InSytu. With 15 years’ experience in management and education related to women and infants outpatient services, Theresa has been responsible for the strategic planning and development of InSytu’s forerunner, Swedish’s Gossman Center for Advanced Healthcare Simulation. She is a participating member of the Pacific Northwest Healthcare Simulation Collaborative and the Society for Simulation in Healthcare.
Ian has years of simulation experience and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Ian has 16 years of Emergency Medicine experience in various settings. Ian was the Medical Director for two busy urban emergency departments during his career as well as Swedish Health System Chief of Emergency Medicine overseeing clinical care at seven different emergency departments. Ian graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine with his MD in 1999. Ian obtained his CHSE in 2018.
Michelle has 5 years of simulation experience and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Michelle has 10 years of clinical nursing experience in the Intensive Care Unit, Cardiac Progressive Care Unit, and as a Nursing Supervisor. Michelle was also a Clinical Nursing Instructor for an Associate Degree Level (ADN) College for four years where she assisted with the development and implementation of simulations in the sim lab for students. Michelle graduated with her RN from Skagit Valley College in 2006 and with her Master’s in Nursing from the University of Washington in 2014.
Ben is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Operations Specialist with over 5 years of simulation experience, and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Ben has 8 years of classroom facilitation experience as a corporate trainer and 2 years of experience as an IT technician before becoming a simulation specialist. Ben graduated from the University of Idaho in 2003.
Kristen recently joined the InSytu simulation team as a facilitator, although she has participated in simulations since the inception of the company. Kristen has 20 years of OB/Gyn experience, seven of those years as Chief of Campus Ob/Gyn department , Swedish Issaquah. She has previously helped facilitate international simulation and skills trainings in Africa for local obstetricians and midwives. She completed her Ob/Gyn training at Kaiser, Oakland California and earned her MD from Medical College of Virginia – Virginia Commonwealth University in 1998. She completed her MPH at the University of Washington in 2016.
Hanns has 4 years of simulation experience. Hanns has 41 years of clinical anesthesia experience and has been teaching OR simulations and hands-on Emergency Airway Management courses through simulation for 2 years. Hanns graduated from the University of Michigan with his MD in 1970.
Deb has 3 years of simulation experience and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Deb has spent 23 years in private practice for Obstetrics and Gynecology and then worked as an OBGyn Hospitalist for 4 years. Deb graduated from the University of Washington School of Medicine with her MD in 1982.
Susan has 1+ years of experience in simulation and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Susan is a practicing OB Gyn Physician at Swedish Medical Center and has 25+ years of experience. Susan graduated in 1987 with her MD from the University of Washington School of Medicine.
Jan brings knowledge and experience in Obstetrical and Perioperative Nursing to the simulation team. During her graduate school experience she applied the concepts of program development in planning and facilitating clinical, didactic, and simulation scenarios focused on Obstetrical and Perioperative curriculum compliant to standards and policy; promoting a learning environment of best practice. Jan has earned her certification in both In-Patient OB practice and Operating Room nursing and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Jan graduated with her Associate Degree in Nursing from Shoreline Community College 1999, Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Washington 2003 and her Master of Nursing from the University of Washington 2017.
Merllie is a Certified Healthcare Simulation Educator with 11 years of experience in simulation and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Merllie has over 35 years of clinical nursing experience in perinatal nursing and has been an OB clinical instructor for 10 years. Merllie graduated with her BSN from Far Eastern University Institute of Nursing.
Charmaine is new to the simulation team as a Simulation Program Coordinator and Facilitator and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. She brings with her a wealth of experience, with over 15 years of clinical nursing experience in both Labor and Delivery as well as the Emergency Department. Charmaine graduated with her RN from Shoreline Community College in 2003 and with her Bachelor’s in Nursing from Seattle Pacific University in 2017. Her passion for teaching extends beyond the hospital, as she has also served as a fitness instructor for the past 4 years.
Annette has 3 years of simulation experience and is a member of the Society for Simulation in Healthcare. Annette has 15 years of clinical inpatient nursing care experience throughout the care continuum from ED, general medical, post-surgical recovery, ICU, rehabilitation, and hospice. She holds certifications for CCRN, PALS, ACLS-instructor, TNCC, CHSE, and MHFA instructor. Annette graduated from the University of Wisconsin in 1999 with her BSN and in 2007 with a dual Master’s Degree in Architecture and Urban Planning.
Tabatha has 5 years of simulation experience both working and teaching simulation at a college in Washington State. She has two bachelor’s degrees from Central Washington University in Technology and Administrative Management.
